OK they’re not a lie.
I have a set of Titlist Acushnet clubs that I regripped. They’re the Acushnet AC-108s from 1972. The set I have is 2i through PW. They’re tungsten weighted which is something both the TaylorMade P790s and Kirkland Signature irons are bragging about but from more than half a century earlier.
The Acushnet clubs I have are way prettier than whatever this noise is above.
But here’s where things go totally off the rails: The club lofts are nonsense.
I like the two iron. I’ve hit the two iron. Many times. On the course. It’s gotten me out of many scrapes. I’m proud that I have been able to hit a two iron with about as much consistency as any other club.
According to the Titleist website, the two iron loft is 22°! That’s the identical loft of my 2011 Callaway RAZR X 4 iron. The four iron of the Acushnet is 28°, which is the same as the RAZR X 6 iron. At least that makes sense because I’d been hitting the 4i off the 12th tee at Rancho Park to hit the green.
Here’s the whole comparison
I created a cheat sheet for myself when I play so I can choose the club that works for me in that situation:
I’m happy with my Acushnet set.
Have you tried them? What do you think? Let me know!
